Corporate Retreats

Heathfield House was built in 1760, in the Georgian Style. The estate has a rich and varied history. The 19th Century Latin motto “Dieu Ayde” meaning “Let us go on or God assists us” still sits above the front door. Over the years there have been very few owners of the House – everyone who lived here tended to stay. The most notable owner was Lady Bingham, wife of Sir George Bingham (who guarded the deposed Napoleon). The house was also home to airmen during the Second World War whilst the surrounding area was turned into an airbase. One of these airmen eventually bought the house when the war was over. Heathfield also housed war heroes – carrier pigeons. These birds went on to save many lives during the war, some even winning the coveted Dickin award!
